Bill Lockyer is a Berkeley graduate with a long and successful political career. After getting his degree in Political Science, he taught for a year before getting a job on a state assemblyman's staff. He then started his political career, which included being elected to the school board and chairing the county Democratic committee. In 1986, he graduated from law school and became involved in even more politics - this time as a candidate himself. He served as California's treasurer and attorney general and now devotes his time to writing columns and giving speeches on various political topics.
