After his service in the Navy, James Feldkamp transitioned to a federal law enforcement role with the FBI in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was instrumental in founding the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force. His responsibilities extended to conducting aerial surveillance as one of the specially tasked pilots. His civic engagement continued as he entered the political arena, running as the Republican nominee for Oregon's 4th Congressional District in both the 2004 and 2006 elections.
In 2007, Feldkamp was called back to active duty to contribute to the establishment of what would later become the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO). He also ventured into academia, taking up positions as an adjunct professor at George Washington University, George Mason University, and Georgetown University, teaching courses on domestic and international terrorism. His contributions to academia include authoring and editing the textbook "Theory and Politics of Terrorism."
Professionally, James has been active as the Lead Consultant at Complete Threat Preparedness, Inc., since 2017, where he provides expertise on safety and security issues. He also engages in freelance editorial work at Reedsy, focusing on topics related to terrorism and intelligence. His adventurous spirit led him to participate in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, an endeavor that spanned from 2018 to 2022, showcasing his resilience and pursuit of challenging experiences.
In his role at the Office of Global Maritime Situational Awareness, Feldkamp significantly contributed to enhancing maritime security by fostering international cooperation and strategic partnerships, which have been pivotal in improving global naval safety.
Beyond his professional commitments, James Feldkamp is an ardent sports enthusiast who enjoys mountain climbing, skiing, scuba diving, and sailing. His adventurous nature is also evident in his participation in activities like the Clipper Race and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona. His educational journey continued with an MA in International Affairs from The Catholic University of America and a diploma from the U.S. Naval War College.
