Following his naval service, Feldkamp transitioned to the FBI as a Special Agent based in Norfolk, Virginia. Here, he was a pioneer member of the Tidewater Joint Terrorism Task Force and conducted aerial surveillance as one of the office's designated pilots. In 2004, he ventured into politics, standing as the Republican candidate for Oregon's 4th Congressional District in both 2004 and 2006 election cycles.
In 2007, James Feldkamp was recalled to active duty to aid in the establishment of the office that would evolve into the National Maritime Intelligence-Integration Office (NMIO). His academic tenure includes roles as an adjunct professor at esteemed institutions such as George Washington University, George Mason University, and Georgetown University, where he taught about terrorism and security issues. His scholarly contributions include authoring and editing the textbook "Theory and Politics of Terrorism."
Jim Feldkamp’s professional pursuits are varied, including his current role as Lead Consultant at Complete Threat Preparedness, Inc., where he offers expert guidance on security measures against various threats. Additionally, he contributes as a freelance editor at Reedsy, focusing on terrorism and intelligence literature.
