He was born on February 15, 1952, in Islampur, a part of old Dhaka City. Growing up as the youngest among six siblings, he was part of a family that valued education and service. His father was a practicing lawyer at the Dhaka High Court. He later attended the University of Dhaka, where he earned a degree in Business Studies. Alongside his academic work, he was actively engaged in extracurricular and athletic activities.

His professional journey began in 1978 with his involvement in the service sector. Around the same period, he began exploring opportunities in domestic trade. These early steps enabled him to gain valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the local business context.

A significant turning point came with the establishment of East West Property Development (Pvt) Ltd. The company quickly found success in the real estate sector and became widely known as Bashundhara Housing. This venture laid the groundwork for further expansion into new industries.

Over time, he founded the Bashundhara Group, expanding operations across a wide range of sectors, including cement, paper, steel, LP gas, dredging, shipping, and food processing. Under his leadership, the group grew into a broad network of businesses, supporting national economic development and creating thousands of jobs.

As the Founder of Bashundhara Group, he continues to guide the organization with a strong focus on management structure, strategic delegation, and operational efficiency. These practices have played a key role in sustaining the group’s long-term growth.
