Basem Hamid, an accomplished medical doctor specializing in neurology and pain medicine, has built a remarkable career since earning his M.D. from Damascus University. His postgraduate training in the U.S., including a fellowship in Pain Medicine, has equipped him with a robust expertise in handling complex pain issues. He currently directs the Innova Pain Center, focusing on innovative treatments for chronic pain and conducting pivotal research in pain management and cancer-related pain therapies.

Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Basem Hamid MD achieved valedictorian at his high school in 1989 before entering Damascus University School of Medicine, from which he graduated in 1995. His pursuit of excellence continued in the United States, where he started his internship at Mount Sinai University Services in New York City in 1996. He then completed a residency in internal medicine and neurology at West Virginia University, where he also held the position of Chief Resident in the Department of Neurology until 2001.

Choosing to specialize in pain medicine, he commenced a fellowship at the University of Iowa's Department of Anesthesia in 2002, focusing on various conditions, including chronic and cancer-related pain. He completed this advanced training in 2003.

Significant roles in both academic and clinical settings mark his professional journey. He was an Assistant Professor at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 2003 to 2006, enhancing their pain management programs. In 2006, he relocated to Houston, Texas, and took a role at The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He served as an Assistant Professor there and was instrumental in advancing pain management techniques, particularly for cancer patients.

In 2008, he founded Innova Pain Center in Houston, where he has been pioneering advanced pain management solutions. His research efforts have been significant, and he has led several studies, including a multicenter notable survey on Nasalfent for breakthrough cancer pain and other studies focused on pain management innovations.

Throughout his career, Hamid has been honored with several awards recognizing his contributions to medicine and the community, such as the School Union International Award and the Above and Beyond Award from The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Moreover, he has been actively mentoring the next generation of doctors and contributing to community service, demonstrating a profound commitment to medical education and societal well-being.
