G. Darrell Hulsey has dedicated over 35 years to his career as an entrepreneur and leader in healthcare management. Since 2016, he has been serving as the CEO of Professional Billing, Inc. (PBI), a company that provides revenue cycle and practice management services to physician practices across more than 15 states. Under his direction, the company works with over 200 practices. Alongside his business career, he has dedicated more than three decades to philanthropy, giving both his time and resources to support meaningful causes.

His professional journey began in 1991 when Darrell Hulsey accepted a position with CompMed/Medaphis Physician Services, now McKesson, as a Senior Operations Manager. While based in Knoxville, Tennessee, he managed hospital-based physician practices across four states. His duties included overseeing operations, handling managed care contracts with third-party payors, and developing new business opportunities in several regions.

After three years, Darrell co-founded Medical Management Professionals (MMP) with six partners. During his tenure, he held multiple leadership roles and played a crucial part in the company’s growth. In 1998, the business was sold to CBIZ, where he became Vice President and later President and CEO. In 2013, when the company transitioned back to private ownership, he continued to lead until 2016, when he joined PBI. Over the years at MMP, the company processed more than 34 million procedures, handled $5 billion in client charges, and collected more than $2 billion in client revenues. According to SEC filings, it reported $165 million in revenue and $21 million in earnings.

At MMP, he was directly involved in every aspect of operations, including compliance, IT, finance, HR, sales, and mergers. From 2007 to 2013, while serving as President and CEO, he increased revenue from $90 million to $165 million, consolidated 12 billing systems into four, reduced operating costs by more than 45%, and decreased the staff count by approximately 35%. Earlier, as Executive Vice President of Operations for the East Region, he expanded services into 10 states, increased revenues by 83%, and raised profits by 98%.

At PBI, he has guided the company to 250% revenue growth from 2016 through 2025. Hulsey completed the acquisition and integration of five organizations, producing 30% cost savings within 18 months of each. He also advanced operations by implementing analytics platforms and AI-driven billing systems, improving collections by 15% annually, reducing denials by 25%, and cutting administrative costs by 40%. His leadership has ensured that operations remain aligned with HIPAA and CMS standards.

For more than 35 years, he has supported religious charities and contributed to organizations such as St. Jude’s Hospital and the Epilepsy Foundation of America. A graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Health Management and a concentration in Accounting, he has supported his alma mater for more than three decades.

Born in Haleyville, Alabama, he enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking, and traveling during his free time. Today, Darrell Hulsey continues to lead PBI while balancing his professional role with a lasting dedication to service and philanthropy.
