Dina Vardal United States of America

Dina Vardal is a retired law enforcement officer, Army National Guard veteran, and devoted mother whose life reflects courage, service, and tradition. Raised in Joliet, Illinois, she grew up in a household where Greek and Italian heritage blended into daily life, shaping her character and values. For more than two decades, she built a career serving others, first as a SWAT officer, firearms instructor, and helicopter mechanic, and later as a teacher and active community volunteer.

Her early life was rooted in family and culture. Her father emigrated from Mykonos, Greece, while her mother came from Ferrara, Italy, and together they created a home filled with love and resilience. The family restaurant, Mykonos Gyros, became a gathering place during the 1980s, while her father’s company, Vardal Engineering, stood as a lasting testament to their dedication. These influences gave Dina a strong sense of responsibility and belonging.

At seventeen, Dina began her journey of service by enlisting in the Army National Guard. She pursued education alongside her duties, first earning an associate degree in Law Enforcement at Joliet Junior College and later graduating Magna Cum Laude from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Administration. Years later, while balancing career and motherhood, she earned a master’s in Organizational Development, reflecting her perseverance and drive.

Her career in law enforcement was marked by leadership and strength. As a SWAT officer, she thrived under pressure, and as a firearms instructor, she trained both recruits and civilians with patience and skill. In parallel, her 22 years in the National Guard included service as a helicopter mechanic, crew chief, and fitness coordinator. Her deployments to Panama and Germany expanded her horizons, strengthening her understanding of teamwork, culture, and resilience.

Life after retirement opened new opportunities for teaching and service. Dina Vardal worked as a substitute teacher, guiding students with discipline and care, and volunteered with organizations supporting families, animals, and her church. She enjoys yearly trips to Greece, scuba diving, gardening, and cooking traditional meals for loved ones. In 2022, she married Noe DeLeon Jr., and she cherishes her daughter, Danira, born in 2013, as her greatest blessing and lifelong inspiration.
