Dr. Todd Young, a 54-year-old physician from Springdale, Newfoundland, has dedicated his career to improving healthcare in rural and underserved areas. As the founder and Medical Director of Main Street Medical Clinic and CEO of MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., he has pioneered innovative healthcare solutions to make medical services more accessible, especially in remote communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Growing up in Springdale, Dr. Young’s interest in healthcare began early. He earned a Diploma in Nursing from the Western Memorial Regional Hospital School of Nursing in 2001 and worked as an outpost nurse in northern Ontario’s Indigenous communities. This experience exposed him to the challenges of providing healthcare in remote locations, motivating him to pursue a medical degree. He graduated from McMaster University in 2004 and completed his residency in rural family medicine, focusing on underserved communities.

Dr. Young’s healthcare career includes serving as the physician lead at the Green Bay Health Center and as the Medical Director at Valley Vista Seniors Home. In 2016, he founded Main Street Medical Clinic in Springdale, a groundbreaking initiative that combined traditional in-person care with telemedicine. This innovative model allowed patients in rural areas to access healthcare remotely, reducing the need for long travel distances and increasing access to specialists.

Alongside the clinic, Dr. Young founded MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., which offers virtual healthcare services across Newfoundland and Labrador. Through MEDICURO, patients can consult with doctors, receive prescriptions, and access health information from their homes, mainly benefiting those in isolated areas where healthcare resources are scarce.

Dr. Young also developed Newfoundland and Labrador’s first rapid access addictions program, offering immediate care for individuals struggling with substance use. The program’s satellite offices throughout the province ensure that people in need have timely access to treatment. Additionally, he created a workplace health and safety model to promote employee wellness and prevent injuries in various industries across Newfoundland and Labrador.

In addition to his clinical and entrepreneurial work, Dr. Young is passionate about education. He has served as a professor at Memorial University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, training future healthcare professionals in rural health and emergency care. He is also actively involved in his community, sponsoring local youth sports teams and supporting charitable organizations like Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Gathering Place.

Dr. Todd Young’s career is a testament to his dedication to improving healthcare access, enhancing quality of care, and giving back to his community. His work continues to shape the future of healthcare in Newfoundland and Labrador, impacting countless individuals' lives.
