Dr. David Burkett has built an extensive medical career, primarily focused on cardiology, with additional expertise in general cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, echocardiography, and non-invasive cardiology. His clinical expertise covers a wide range of conditions, including coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias, hyperlipidemia, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary hypertension. He performs cardiac ablations and utilizes diagnostic tools such as echocardiography to manage complex cardiac conditions.

He served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at L.S.U. School of Medicine and as the Director of Cardiology at their Cardiac/E.P. Catheterization Lab. His roles included teaching and supervising medical residents, cardiology fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants.

Dr. Burkett's educational journey began at Southern Methodist University, where he earned a B.S. in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. He continued his medical training at LSU HSC School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency and fellowships in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, respectively. His training included moonlighting in emergency rooms across several hospitals, enriching his clinical experience.

His research has significantly advanced the field, particularly in developing new techniques for atrial fibrillation ablation. His scholarly work includes numerous publications and studies conducted during his fellowships, such as his research on a deflectable pulmonary vein ultrasound ablative catheter and contributions to understanding cardiac electrophysiology through abstracts and case reports.
He has been honored with several awards and recognitions, including being named the "Best Practicing Cardiologist" in West Monroe, Louisiana. He is actively involved with the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association and holds fellowships and memberships in several professional societies. He has also served as a national speaker for United Therapeutics Pharmaceutical Corporation, educating healthcare professionals on pulmonary arterial hypertension.
