Dr. McInnis was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, as the oldest of four siblings. His early years were shaped by a passion for sports, excelling in hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. He played Junior A hockey and was even scouted by the Boston Red Sox as a potential pitching prospect. His love for sports continued into adulthood as he added weightlifting to his fitness routine, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to physical health and discipline. Dr. McInnis exhibited a strong sense of responsibility and a dedicated work ethic from a young age. He began delivering newspapers at ten and took on his first full-time job at McDonald’s at 13. Dr. McInnis’s educational background is impressive. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1992. After completing his undergraduate degree, he traveled throughout the United States, gaining a broader perspective on life before continuing his academic pursuits. In 1997, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics from Dalhousie University.
Dr. McInnis then attended Dalhousie University Medical School, earning his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2004. His medical education continued with an internship at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he completed his Post Graduate Studies in Emergency and Family Medicine. This combination of formal education and practical experience has given him a comprehensive understanding of primary and emergency care.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. McInnis serves as a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he is a Navy reservist.
