Dr. Edward R. McInnis, Lt. (N), MD, CCFP, is a distinguished medical professional with extensive experience in both family and emergency medicine. Over his career, he has dedicated ten years to emergency and trauma care and spent sixteen years as a family physician. In addition to his medical accomplishments, he is a father of four, a lieutenant in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and a committed volunteer in his community.
He was raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, as the eldest of four children. From an early age, he exhibited a passion for sports, participating in hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf. His athletic abilities allowed him to compete at advanced levels, including playing Junior A hockey and being scouted by the Boston Red Sox for a potential role as a pitcher. He pursued further studies at Dalhousie University, earning a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics in 1997, followed by an Epidemiology Certification in 2002. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2004 with a Doctor of Medicine degree and completed his postgraduate training in Emergency and Family Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
His professional credentials include licensure from the Medical Council of Canada and certification from the Canadian College of Family Physicians. He also holds a commissioned rank as a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, exemplifying his commitment to both medicine and military service.
Over the years, he has received multiple honors, including the Prince Edward Island Top Medical Student Scholarship and a Special Citation for Meritorious Service in the Canadian Armed Forces.
