Dr. James McInnis is an accomplished professional in family and emergency medicine, boasting a decade of expertise in emergency and trauma care and sixteen years as a family physician. In addition to his medical career, he balances the roles of a devoted father to four children, a passionate athlete, a lieutenant (N) in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and an active volunteer.
Hailing from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, he is the eldest among four siblings and has been immersed in sports since his early years. With a background in competitive hockey and baseball, he even caught the attention of the Boston Red Sox for his pitching skills and played Junior A hockey. As he matured, he added weightlifting to his repertoire of athletic pursuits.
His proactive and diligent nature has been evident since childhood, having started a paper route at ten and taking on a full-time job at McDonald’s by thirteen.
His educational journey is extensive and diverse. He earned his BBA from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia 1992, followed by travel across the United States. He then pursued a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1997. 2002, he obtained an Epidemiology Certification from the same institution before entering Dalhousie Medical School in 2000, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2004. He completed his internship and pursued further Emergency and Family Medicine specialization at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
