Dr. Timothy Vogel is a board-certified pediatric neurosurgeon who serves as the Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital and is the founder of Pediatric Neurosurgeons of New Jersey. He is known for his work in pediatric craniofacial surgery, minimally invasive craniosynostosis surgery, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, and congenital malformations. His leadership in the first successful surgery performed on a baby born with exencephaly brought significant attention to his clinical practice.

As a leading craniofacial surgeon in the Northeast, Dr. Vogel focuses on advancing craniofacial surgery in Northern New Jersey. He founded the comprehensive craniofacial center at Hackensack University Medical Center, which received national accreditation from the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. His team treats complex craniofacial cases through a coordinated multidisciplinary approach.

He served as co-chair of the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation Gala and is recognized in New Jersey for his expertise in pediatric brain tumors. He uses minimally invasive techniques to treat children with rare and severe brain and spine tumors and has helped develop clinical trials that expand treatment options for young patients. He also played a central role in founding New Jersey’s first pediatric neuro-oncology laboratory dedicated to rare brain tumor research.

He has authored multiple publications, holds several patents, and has worked as a developmental neuroscientist with a focus on CNS genetics and forebrain development. His peers throughout the New York and New Jersey region have consistently recognized him as one of the top pediatric neurosurgeons.

Timothy Vogel, MD, began his academic career at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the #1 pediatric hospital in the United States, where he served as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosurgery, and the Division of Developmental Biology. He trained and mentored students through the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute and the Graduate Program in Molecular and Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. His work in Cincinnati included research on craniosynostosis, and patients from more than 15 states continue to travel for his minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.

He further expanded his research training as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He later served as Director of Pediatric and Craniofacial Neurosurgery at the New Jersey Brain and Spine Center in Hackensack.

Timothy also worked as Scientific Director and Principal Investigator of the Pediatric Neuro-oncology Lab at the Center for Discovery and Innovation CDI at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University. He then led the Comprehensive Craniofacial Clinic at Hackensack before assuming his current leadership role.

Dr. Timothy Vogel studied at Princeton University and Columbia University. He completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Iowa, Boston Children’s Hospital at Harvard University, and St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Washington University in St. Louis. He is double board-certified through the ABNS and ABPNS and holds fellowships, including FACS and FAAP.
