After several relocations, it permanently settled in Boston's Theater District. Initially renamed the Monroe Conservatory of Oratory in 1881 in honor of Professor Lewis B. Monroe, a significant mentor to the founder, the school underwent several name changes before being officially designated Emerson College in 1939.
