Eric Nuss spent the first fifteen years of his life in Omaha before moving with his family to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he completed high school. He continued his Education at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education with a focus on science and athletic coaching. He later pursued an MBA at the University of Iowa, combining his interest in teaching and coaching with the business knowledge that would define much of his career.
Eric began as a middle school teacher in Colorado Springs. Teaching allowed him to develop skills in leadership, communication, and patience; however, over time, he transitioned into sales and sales management. These roles introduced him to the world of business growth and organizational leadership. Alongside this, he also coached youth baseball, teaching players to follow principles of teamwork, discipline, and accountability. The lessons he emphasized as a coach later shaped his consulting philosophy, giving him tools to help others succeed in professional settings.
Over the course of more than twenty years, he has dedicated his career to the dental industry as a consultant and advisor. He has worked with practice owners through acquisitions, practice integration, and phases of growth, offering guidance in strategy, leadership development, and operations. He has built scalable systems in finance, compliance, and human resources that allow practices to run more smoothly while providers remain focused on patient care. In his role as Strategic Advisor at XpoDental, he continues to help practices strengthen their foundations and achieve sustainable growth.
A consistent focus of Eric's work has been addressing the gap in business leadership among doctors. While clinical training is extensive, many owners are unprepared for the challenges of building enterprise value. This often results in difficulties when practices are sold and limited retirement opportunities for doctors. He has helped close this gap by designing tax-efficient exit strategies, developing scalable practice models, and building systems that protect revenue and retain employees. His philosophy encourages leaders to move quickly, learn through mistakes, and take full responsibility for their choices.
Eric Nuss's contributions have earned recognition throughout the industry. He was profiled in Forbes magazine for creating Henry Schein's Business Solutions Division and for founding the Dental Business Institute. Dental Economics highlighted his leadership in the rollout of DBI nationwide, crediting him with reshaping how dentists approach practice growth and succession. He has authored four textbooks that form part of the DBI curriculum and has published articles in leading outlets, including Dental Economics, Dentistry Today, Inside Dentistry, and Dental Tribune. He has also been invited to speak at events like the Dykema DSO Conference and other national leadership summits. As Founding Director of Henry Schein Business Solutions and DBI, he was recognized for creating educational programs that continue to support practices nationwide.
Outside of consulting, he has also been committed to athletics. At STiKS Baseball Academy, where he coached for nearly four years, he focused on teamwork, fundamentals, and discipline. Eric also coached boys' basketball at Southeast Christian School for almost two years, emphasizing leadership, communication, and values. These roles reflect his dedication to helping young athletes grow in skill and character.
His life experiences have also shaped his outlook. During college, he studied abroad in Tanzania, where exposure to a different culture reshaped his views on faith, materialism, and resourcefulness. His blended family has also played a defining role in his life. Raising six children has taught him patience, empathy, and adaptability, qualities that guide both his personal and professional approach.
Today, he lives in Parker, Colorado, with his wife and their six children. Their family life is full of activity, with days spent on school events, sports, and shared meals. These moments keep him grounded and motivated. With a career built on Education, leadership, and service, Eric Nuss continues to focus on helping others achieve growth, stability, and lasting success.
