Originally from Concord, California, Gerald Fogel has dedicated over thirty years to public service in roles that have tested his resolve and commitment to community safety. Beginning his career as a volunteer reserve at the Contra Costa Consolidated Fire Protection District, he quickly showcased his ability to handle both the demands of firefighting and the precise requirements of medical emergencies.

After completing his education in paramedic school in 1984, Gerald embarked on a vital role with American Medical Response as an Emergency Paramedic. His ability to manage critical situations led to his recruitment into the innovative first class of firefighters/paramedics at the Fremont Fire Department in 1985. This role was at the forefront of integrating medical response with firefighting operations, significantly enhancing the department's efficiency during emergencies. His leadership skills and operational knowledge earned him a promotion to Fire Captain/Paramedic, where he led his team in emergency responses and managed developmental programs that improved the department's service delivery.

Not one to retire into the background, Gerald continued to share his wealth of knowledge and experience by joining the Foresthill Fire Protection District after his official retirement. In this capacity, he mentored younger firefighters and advised the agency on strategic operations, ensuring continued excellence in service.

Gerald's commitment to public service extended beyond the fire department. He worked as an EMT with Pomeroy Ambulance Services. He served as a critical care provider at the Concord Pavilion, managing medical emergencies at major public events for over a decade. His expertise in emergency management was further utilized as a communications specialist for the Urban Search and Rescue California Task Force 4, where he coordinated response to nationwide disaster sites.

His Division/Group Supervisor role on a Type 3 Incident Management Team underscored his leadership capabilities. He managed responses to significant emergencies, including hurricanes and wildfires across the United States. His efforts during critical events like the 1989 Oakland Firestorm and the 1991 Loma Prieta Earthquake demonstrated his proficiency in handling high-pressure situations.

Beyond his professional achievements, Gerald has a deep passion for physical fitness and the outdoors. He is an avid hiker, mountain biker, and skier, maintaining a high level of fitness that supports his active lifestyle. Additionally, he participates in off-road motorcycle racing, competing in events like the Virginia City Grand Prix, where he tests his physical and mental endurance.

Gerald maintains his health through a ketogenic diet, which he believes is crucial in sustaining his energy levels and physical wellness. His approach to health and fitness is disciplined and focused. He advocates for a balanced lifestyle that incorporates physical activity and proper nutrition.
