Sugar Group Schools was founded by Gunawan Jusuf's mom and is now run by his sister, Purwati Lee.
The non-profit was established in 2005 with the goal of educating the children of sugarcane farm workers. Despite their rural settings, these institutions function quite differently from the norm in Indonesia. The rooms are well-lit with air conditioning and WiFi, and the bilingual programs push the students to flourish through the polytechnic level.
Over 1,900 employees' kids are getting a free education at the Sugar Group Schools. Uniforms, backpacks, shoes, and two meals and two snacks a day are provided at no cost to the students. The best pupils are rewarded with full college tuition waivers.
