Jonathan Pasternak is a veteran bankruptcy and restructuring attorney who has built one of the most active debtor bankruptcy practices in the nation by volume. Over a 36-year36-year career in bankruptcy and restructuring, Jonathan has represented clients across many industries. His primary focus has been the reorganization of private and public companies through Chapter 11 bankruptcy and negotiated restructuring processes. He has guided hundreds of corporate and individual clients through insolvency proceedings, loan workouts, recapitalizations, and asset sales.
His experience includes debtor and creditor representation in complex bankruptcy cases. Pasternak has worked with business owners, institutional lenders, equity stakeholders, and court-appointed fiduciaries responsible for managing distressed entities. For more than 20 years, Jonathan managed his own boutique bankruptcy law firm. Under his direction, the firm became one of the leading Chapter 11 debtor firms in the United States based on the volume of cases handled. He oversaw daily operations while maintaining an active caseload, working directly with clients throughout reorganization and insolvency matters.
Operating a specialized bankruptcy practice required operational discipline, strategic case management, and consistent client communication. His sustained contributions earned recognition within the restructuring community. In 2017, Jonathan was named YJP Professional of the Year for his long-term work in insolvency and restructuring initiatives. He was also recognized as a Super Lawyer for over 15 consecutive years and was frequently cited among the top 20 bankruptcy attorneys in the nation by case volume.
Pasternak graduated cum laude from The Pingry School and later earned a degree in American History and Literature from Brown University. He has served as a class representative for both institutions and continues to participate in alumni outreach and engagement. His spouse and two of his three children are graduates of Brown University, reflecting a lasting family connection to the university community.
Jonathan has supported charitable and educational programs, including food and clothing drives and initiatives associated with his alma mater. For 11 years, he served on the Board of Trustees of Temple Sinai of Bergen County, contributing to governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
