Before transitioning into human resources, Luis served in the United States Marine Corps, developing critical leadership and operational skills. His time in the military shaped his values and leadership style, instilling in him a strong sense of discipline, responsibility, and a focus on teamwork. These qualities have been integral to his approach to HR, enabling him to lead teams effectively and drive organizational change.

Luis’s professional career began at Motorola, Inc., where he worked as an HR Business Partner and Manager. At Motorola, he gained valuable experience aligning HR strategies with business objectives, helping the company build a solid foundation for its HR practices. He later moved to Kellogg Company, where he served as Senior HR Business Partner and Senior Employee Relations Consultant. At Kellogg, Luis was responsible for managing HR across the company’s global operations, supporting the company’s growth and success.

In 2005, Luis joined Grainger Industrial Supply as Senior HR Manager, overseeing HR functions for 13 distribution centers across the U.S. and Mexico. He was pivotal in improving employee engagement, implementing lean methodologies, and driving operational efficiency. One of his major accomplishments at Grainger was leading the transition to a “pay for performance” culture, which significantly impacted employee motivation and productivity.

Luis’s next major role came at Navistar, a global manufacturer of trucks and defense vehicles, where he served as HR lead for the Components Division. While at Navistar, Luis was selected for a six-month assignment in China, where he helped launch a joint venture with Janghui Automotive Corporation. This experience further strengthened his international HR expertise and allowed him to develop HR strategies for the new venture, manage expatriate infrastructure, and oversee HR due diligence for multiple acquisitions.

In 2015, Luis joined Brunswick, a leading marine industry manufacturer, as HR Director. He managed HR for a division with $750 million in revenue across six locations in the U.S. and Canada. Under his leadership, employee engagement improved, turnover decreased, and productivity increased. Luis’s efforts helped three Brunswick locations earn the “Employer of Choice” award, recognizing the company’s commitment to creating a positive work environment.

Luis then worked at Wheels, Inc., a fleet management company, as HR Manager and Strategic HR Business Partner. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he ensured business continuity by transitioning employees to remote work and implementing necessary health and safety protocols. He also led the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, helping to foster an inclusive and supportive work environment.

At Hendrickson International, a global leader in commercial vehicle trailer and suspension manufacturing, Luis served as HR Director, overseeing HR operations at eight locations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. His focus on leadership development, talent acquisition, and employee engagement helped Hendrickson build a competitive workforce and strengthen its position in the marketplace.

Luis’s most recent role was Senior HR Director at Reynolds Consumer Products, where he led HR for the Hefty Waste & Storage and Hefty Tableware business units. He worked to enhance employee engagement, improve retention, and foster community within the organization.

Outside of his professional life, Luis is passionate about giving back to his community. He has been actively involved with the "By the Hand" organization, which supports at-risk youth in Chicago through education and mentorship. Luis also participates in volunteer efforts in northern Michigan, where he helps maintain Boy Scout facilities.

In his time, Luis enjoys a variety of hobbies, including welding, home brewing, and gardening. He is an avid scuba diver, cyclist, and kayaker, spending time outdoors to unwind and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
