Michael Hopkins Denver Male United States of America

As Michael D. Hopkins progressed through his career, he consistently focused on developing solutions that improved systems and met the needs of travelers and organizations. His work has included authorship, invention, operational leadership, and executive management. The idea that would later evolve into the Aeropod first took shape during the years he lived and traveled throughout Europe. Observing airport environments where passengers had access to quiet places to rest, he noted a contrast with airports in the United States and kept that observation in mind as he built his later projects.

Michael spent his formative years overseas, attending Zweibrücken Air Force High School in Germany and graduating in 1985. Living abroad provided him with a broader understanding of cultural and logistical differences, particularly in travel. These early insights helped build the foundation for his interest in transportation and passenger experience. After returning to the United States, he pursued higher education at the University of Missouri in St. Louis and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 1990.

His career began in 1989 when he joined United Parcel Service. Working first in St. Louis and later in Denver, Colorado, Michael became a Hub Operations Supervisor responsible for managing sales pickup routes and overseeing operational start times for large teams. His work in this role contributed to a 40 percent reduction in service failures, demonstrating his ability to strengthen operational systems and promote efficiency. He continued his UPS career as an Outbound Primary Sort Supervisor, guiding teams through the high-volume sorting and routing process. These responsibilities reinforced his commitment to safety, accuracy, and dependable workflow management. His performance earned him Safety and Service Awards in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1997, and 1998.

A significant shift in Michael’s career came in January 2005 when he founded Napstar, LLC in Denver. As the owner and manager of the company, he developed marketing strategies, conducted research, and maintained business accounts. During this period, he conceptualized and designed the Aeropod, drawing directly from the comfortable rest options he had seen abroad. Recognizing that travelers in the United States often lacked private spaces to rest during long connections or delays, he developed a solution to improve the airport experience. He later detailed his ideas in his book, The Denver Aeropod.

In August 2017, Michael expanded his professional expertise by joining Risc Management Security Investigator Company and Community Security Company LLC. As Operations Manager, he oversaw risk assessments, executive protection, and advanced planning. His responsibilities also included HR duties, coordinating training for security teams in mental health clinics, and assisting with the certification process for security guards in the City and County of Denver.

In December 2019, Michael returned to UPS as an Operations Manager in Denver. In this position, he supervised inbound hub operations and supported the feeder department. Over the course of his service, he earned recognition, including service awards during the Democratic National Convention in 2008 and President’s Club Awards in 2002, 2003, and 2005.

Advancing Napstar’s technology and design, Michael Hopkins from Denver partnered with Jono Isbell, CEO of Hollow(arch). Their development proposal, dated October 7, 2025, outlined a next-generation pod prototype featuring modular construction, lightweight structural components, CNC-routed materials, and well-crafted finishes. The design prioritizes flat shipping, quick assembly, and easy maintenance, allowing airports to integrate the pods efficiently.

Beyond his operational and creative work, Michael has contributed to community-oriented efforts, including programs connected to mental health clinic security and training. Outside his professional responsibilities, he maintains an active interest in health and fitness, which supports his overall well-being. He continues to live in Denver, Colorado, staying committed to the ongoing development of his work and his engagement with the community.
