The professional life of Dr. Nicholas DeSimone (PhD) stands as an inspiring example of what it means to follow one’s purpose with courage and conviction. Before becoming a respected figure in mental health and addiction recovery, Nick had already built a successful career in banking. Yet, despite his achievements in that industry, he felt a growing sense that his work lacked personal meaning. He realized his true fulfillment would come from helping others—specifically, guiding people through recovery and supporting them in reclaiming their lives. This realization began an entirely new chapter in his life, one grounded in compassion, understanding, and service.
Nick began his career in behavioral health as an addictions counselor, where he spent four years providing hands-on support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. His work during this time was challenging but deeply rewarding, allowing him to witness firsthand the strength and resilience of those in recovery. His empathy, professionalism, and leadership quickly stood out, leading to his promotion as Director of Substance Abuse Services at a private outpatient facility. In that role, he managed programs designed to help clients rebuild their lives and began developing a broader vision of treatment—one that focused on holistic healing rather than short-term solutions.
In June 2017, that vision became reality when Dr. DeSimone founded Lifetime Recovery in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. The center was built on the principle that recovery should encompass every part of a person’s well-being—physical, emotional, and mental. Lifetime Recovery’s programs are designed to help clients not only overcome addiction but also rediscover a sense of stability, purpose, and confidence. Under Dr. DeSimone’s leadership, the center has become a respected name in the community, offering compassionate, individualized care that empowers people to rebuild their lives on a foundation of hope.
Recognizing the strong connection between mental health and substance use, Nick expanded his mission further. In April 2021, he opened Renewed Light Mental Health in West Deptford, New Jersey. This second outpatient facility was created to address the broader spectrum of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, and grief. Renewed Light continues the same philosophy that defines all of Nick’s work—treating each person with dignity and focusing on holistic wellness. Through this center, he has been able to help countless individuals achieve balance, healing, and renewed strength.
Dr. DeSimone’s academic accomplishments reflect his dedication to professional excellence. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Rowan University and a Master of Science in Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University in 2015. In April 2021, he completed his PhD in General Psychology with an emphasis in Performance Psychology, exploring how mental and emotional resilience contribute to personal growth. His professional qualifications include becoming a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) in 2017 and earning his Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential in 2022.
Beyond his academic and professional success, Nick’s personal journey makes his work uniquely impactful. As of 2025, he proudly celebrates 13 years of sobriety—a milestone symbolizing personal perseverance and the power of change. His lived experience allows him to connect with clients deeply and authentically, offering encouragement from genuine understanding.
Nick’s influence extends beyond his treatment centers. During his feature on Fox 29 News for “Sober September,” he discussed sobriety as an opportunity for mental and emotional renewal rather than simply abstaining from substances. He spoke about the social pressures surrounding alcohol and emphasized the importance of reflection and self-care. His ability to talk openly about these topics inspires others to approach sobriety and mental wellness with compassion and honesty.
Through his ongoing work in counseling, public speaking, and advocacy, Dr. Nicholas DeSimone continues to guide those seeking recovery and renewal. His life’s journey—from finance to healing—reminds others that it’s never too late to change direction and dedicate oneself to a purpose that truly matters.
