Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a trailblazing cardiologist whose work bridges cutting-edge medicine and compassionate care. Practicing at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel is renowned for his expertise in advanced heart failure, cardiac critical care, and his forward-thinking approach to healthcare delivery. He also serves as National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine, a leading organization focused on expanding subspecialty care to rural and underserved areas through innovative telehealth solutions.

Dr. Patel’s educational background is rooted in excellence. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Drexel University in 2009, followed by his Doctor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013. He trained at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia for his internship and residency, then went on to complete competitive fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He maintains board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, and Nuclear Cardiology.

At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel leads multidisciplinary teams caring for patients with severe heart disease. He has played a pivotal role in expanding advanced heart failure therapies, such as ECMO, Impella, and LVAD, allowing critically ill patients to receive comprehensive care close to home. Dr. Patel is passionate about keeping families together during treatment, reducing the need for transfer to distant centers, and supporting quality of life throughout the patient journey. He also focuses on continuity of care through post-discharge programs and remote monitoring technologies, such as CardioMEMS, which helps reduce readmissions and improve long-term outcomes. He is spearheading efforts to create specialized clinics for cardiogenic shock survivors and pioneering the use of virtual autopsies to educate families about inherited cardiac risks.

Nationally, Dr. Patel has a significant impact through his leadership in telemedicine. As National Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Telecare, he has made advanced cardiac imaging accessible to hospitals and patients who previously lacked such resources. His leadership ensures that high-quality echocardiography and cardiac CT interpretation are available across a vast network, closing gaps in cardiac care for rural communities.

Nishi Patel is also an active researcher, with a focus on mechanical circulatory support, advanced heart failure therapies, and cardiac genomics.
