Philip Garland Male • United States of America
Philip Garland is the president of Lexington Land Developers, based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He established this residential land development company in 1981 and has led the development of several attractive housing projects across Pennsylvania over the past 43 years.
Among the notable projects he has spearheaded are a 122-unit multi-residential complex and smaller projects of 98, 45, and 46 units, respectively.
From the ground up, he built his company into a thriving enterprise, learning firsthand what it takes to launch and sustain a profitable business. His expertise has benefitted his ventures and has been extended to assist others in their entrepreneurial pursuits. For instance, he provided the initial funding necessary for the startup of Reed Concrete.
Garland's educational foundation was laid at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, where he completed a two-year program in carpentry, graduating in 1981. His academic and practical skills were highly recognized at the college, earning him the highest and most prestigious award given annually to one outstanding graduate—a tradition established in 1920.
Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology is a distinguished residential two-year college that equips students for specialized careers. It began 1905 as Stevens Trade School, offering state orphans a trade and academic education. The institution now enrolls over 1,400 students and offers associate degrees across 24 programs, alongside several certificates and short-term training courses.
While studying, he was actively involved in sports, serving as the captain for both the cross-country and indoor track teams.
His connection to the college remains strong; he has contributed generously and held positions on the Alumni Foundation and Association Boards for 14 years, dedicating about 10 of those years as treasurer.
In his personal life, Garland married in 2002 and is a father to two boys and a stepson, whom he has raised and mentored since the latter was two years old.
He has been deeply involved in youth sports, coaching lacrosse for eight years. During his final year of coaching, he presented each eighth grader with a motivational poster, promising a $500 reward to those who would continue to embody those values through high school, as recognized by their future coaches.
His leadership extended into scouting, where he led his son’s cub scout pack for five years and served four years as an Assistant Boy Scout Leader. In 2022, he was honored with the Order of the Arrow, an accolade reserved for those who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law.
A particularly proud moment for him was when his son earned the Eagle Scout Award in May 2024, an achievement Garland fully supported. Subsequently, he was invited to mentor and speak at another Eagle Scout Award ceremony.
Garland's compassionate nature is evident through his support for struggling family members. He played a pivotal role in his stepson's journey toward sobriety, offering a home and necessary support that culminated in his stepson achieving one year of sobriety as of October 6, 2024.
He also supported his nephew during a difficult time, helping him re-enroll in school and join the cross-country track team, which paved the way for his admission to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. His nephew has since built a successful life with a family and a stable career.
Outside of business and family, Garland volunteers with the Boy Scouts and supports children who face financial hardships. His charitable efforts extend to donations to his church, local schools, and fire departments, and he has participated in international aid efforts for children in conflict zones.
An avid runner, Garland continues to compete and excel in his age group, maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. His life, marked by leadership, mentorship, and community involvement, inspires and impacts those around him as he leads by example in his professional and personal endeavors.
