Mark Adams is the President and founder of California Receivership Group (CRG), a company that has established itself as a leader in property receivership for over 25 years. Under his leadership, CRG has successfully managed and rehabilitated 415 properties across California, Tennessee, and Texas, handling $62.5 million in rehab loans repaid in full. Through this work, he has not only improved the condition of these properties but also created approximately 1,500 jobs, positively impacting the local economies in the communities CRG serves.

CRG focuses on receivership, a legal process allowing courts to take control of distressed properties to address safety hazards, code violations, and other issues. Adams has used this legal tool to resolve various property issues, including hoarding, fire damage, abandoned properties, and hazardous materials contamination. Through receivership, he and his team can secure properties quickly, begin necessary cleanup, and oversee rehabilitation, restoring them to safe, livable conditions. This approach has proven highly effective in addressing properties that traditional property management methods have struggled to resolve.

Adams's success in California prompted him to expand CRG's services to Texas and Tennessee. In 2019, he founded Texas Receivership Group (TxRG) and Tennessee Receivership Group (TRG), bringing CRG’s receivership model to new regions. Since then, TxRG has secured two appointments in Dallas, while TRG recently completed its 36th property in Memphis. This expansion reflects his commitment to applying his successful model to communities outside of California, helping them address the persistent issues of abandoned and distressed properties.

In addition to his practical work in receivership, Receiver Mark Adams has been instrumental in advancing the industry. He co-founded the Vacant Property Receivership Consortium (VPRC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the use of receivership to revitalize vacant and distressed properties. Through his work with VPRC, he has helped raise awareness about the effectiveness of receivership, advocating for policies that support its use in property revitalization efforts. He has shared his expertise at numerous industry conferences, including the Receivership Roundtable and the Center for Community Progress National Land Bank Network Summit, where he has educated others about the value of receivership.

Adams' knowledge and experience also proved invaluable following the 2020 Los Angeles wildfires. After the disaster, he wrote an article for Receivership News, a publication of the California Receivers Forum, discussing how receivership can help stabilize fire-damaged properties and accelerate the recovery process. In his article, he explained how timely intervention through receivership can reduce health and safety risks and help communities recover more quickly. His insights showcased how receivership can be essential in post-disaster recovery efforts.

Adams began his career in receivership in 1999, when he became the first court-appointed receiver under California’s Health and Safety Code. His first case involved addressing hazardous conditions at a 66-unit apartment complex. Over the years, he has worked on numerous distressed properties, from residential homes to commercial buildings.

Adams has received several accolades throughout his career, including the Distinguished Entrepreneurial Alumnus Award from Loyola Marymount University. His work has made him one of the leading figures in the receivership industry.
