Rory Schmier Male • United States of America
Rory Schmier is a 56-year-old construction professional and ranch manager from Arboles, Colorado. He was born in Durango and spent his early childhood moving with his family throughout various parts of the state. He attended school in Pagosa Springs through the fifth grade before relocating to Monte Vista, where he completed his high school education. These formative years provided him with exposure to diverse communities, laying the foundation for his strong work ethic and practical skills.
After graduating, Rory began working as a farmhand for a local family operation. During his six years there, he learned the core principles of agricultural work, including land care, equipment operation, and seasonal cycles. Looking to broaden his experience, he spent a year in Las Vegas, Nevada, working as a mason. This role introduced him to the basics of construction and gave him valuable hands-on training that would benefit him later.
Rory returned to Colorado and co-owned a liquor store in the Alamosa area for five years. This experience taught him how to manage business operations, maintain inventory, and work directly with customers. Eventually, he returned to his interest in construction and launched his custom home-building and remodeling company. Over more than twenty years, he developed a reputation for high-quality craftsmanship and completed numerous projects throughout the San Luis Valley and Durango areas.
In 2012, Rory transitioned into ranch management, taking on a 300-acre hay operation near Durango. His responsibilities include overseeing planting, irrigation, harvesting, equipment maintenance, and property upkeep. He also manages rental homes on the ranch and handles hay sales and distribution throughout the region.
In his time, Rory enjoys motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, hunting, and camping. He also volunteers his skills by helping elderly residents with home repairs and maintenance.
Rory Schmier now lives in the Durango area full-time, where his work in construction, agriculture, and community service continues to support the people and land he knows well.
