Sean Mannix is a highly experienced law enforcement professional with a career spanning 36 years in public safety. He has served in multiple leadership roles, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to refining policing strategies, advancing officer training, and strengthening community leadership. After retiring in 2020, Sean continued serving the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Sean was born in California and grew up as one of five children. From a young age, he was inspired by his father, a law enforcement officer, and decided to follow in his footsteps. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, an experience that helped him develop leadership qualities and a strong work ethic.
Sean earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, graduating with honors, and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. He also completed several prestigious programs, including the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Senior Management Institute for Police. In addition, Sean completed the LAPD West Point Leadership Program.
After completing his Marine Corps service, Sean began his law enforcement career in Alameda, California, where he became the youngest officer at the Alameda Police Department at 20. He spent the early years of his career handling various patrol and emergency response duties, learning the fundamentals of law enforcement.
In 1993, Sean moved to Austin, Texas, where he joined the Austin Police Department. Over the next 20 years, he advanced from patrol officer to Assistant Chief. During his tenure, Sean played a key role in reducing crime through the COMPSTAT model, enhancing community outreach programs, and building partnerships with federal agencies like the FBI and DEA. He also worked in several divisions, including the Organized Crime Division and the Central Bureau, which focused on crime prevention and public safety.
In 2013, Sean took on a new challenge as Chief of Police for the Cedar Park Police Department. During his tenure, he implemented significant initiatives such as de-escalation training, body-worn cameras, and a nationally recognized wellness program for officers. His leadership fostered a diverse and trusted department with strong community support.
After retiring in 2020, Sean Mannix remained active in law enforcement-related work. He continues to serve on the board of Sigma Tactical Wellness, which focuses on improving first responders' health and supports Williamson County Crime Stoppers, a nonprofit organization dedicated to solving crimes.
Outside of his career, he is a devoted family man. He has been married to his wife for many years, and together, they have four daughters. He enjoys outdoor activities such as aviation and fishing, which help him unwind. Sean also loves reading and believes in lifelong learning to stay engaged in his personal and professional life.
