Sina Bari MD Male • United States of America
Sina Bari MD, a Stanford-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has built a unique career at the intersection of medicine and technology. With a strong background in both fields, he has become a recognized contributor to the development of Medical Artificial Intelligence. His interest in computing began early, shaped by the need to translate his mother’s computer science materials after the loss of his father when he was just eight years old. By high school, he had mastered advanced UNIX networking and developed biological simulation software using early parallel supercomputers. Working in IT during his education helped support college and medical school, where he achieved top academic honors. He earned his MD from Stanford School of Medicine and was selected as one of only three participants in the accelerated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency program. During that time, he contributed to device development through the Stanford Bioinnovation program, where his work helped reduce infections during peritoneal dialysis.
In January 2022, he became Senior Director of Medical Artificial Intelligence at iMerit Technology. Over the three years prior, he had built the division from the ground up, helping it reach over $4 million in annual recurring revenue. His work in Medical AI focuses on applying large-scale data to train computer neural networks, aiming to improve patient care across multiple areas such as radiology, robotic surgery, endoscopy, and drug development. His background as a clinician continues to drive his focus on improving outcomes, while his passion for technology informs his ability to build scalable and practical solutions.
Before joining iMerit, he served as Chief Innovation Officer at a medical technology firm, where he developed AI tools for Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and Otolaryngology. His leadership in these areas built on the skills he developed as a surgeon and laid the foundation for his current success. He began his post-residency career at the Veterans Administration in Palo Alto, later moving into private practice as a consultant in plastic surgery.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Duke University in 2000 and completed his MD at Stanford in 2006. From 2006 to 2012, he completed residency training in skin and soft tissue surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout medical school, he continued to work as a web architect, bridging his two professional interests.
At iMerit, he oversees the full lifecycle of Medical AI development, managing a team of over 500 people. Under his leadership, the company was recognized in 2022 as the top healthcare data services provider by a leading market analysis firm. He has partnered with several major medical device companies to support their AI initiatives. He remains committed to clear communication, professionalism, and reliability in all aspects of his work.
He has shared his expertise widely, contributing to journals, white papers, and books on plastic surgery and speaking at events like the O'Reilly AI Conference, Augmented World Expo, and ODSC. His publications include contributions to Neligan Plastic Surgery and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery journals. In high school, he was recognized as a Supercomputer Challenge Winner by the National Science Foundation, and throughout his career, he has earned multiple awards in research and business leadership.
Sina Bari MD continues to bring together his clinical knowledge and technological insight to lead innovation in healthcare and medical AI.
