Sina Bari MD is a Stanford-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon and an innovator in medical devices and artificial intelligence. His journey into technology started early in life, after losing his father at the age of eight. During this challenging time, he translated his mother’s computer science textbooks into English, which helped him develop his programming skills. By the time he was in high school, he had advanced knowledge of UNIX networking and created biological simulation software on early parallel supercomputers. These skills enabled him to support himself financially while pursuing higher education. He completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2000 and graduated at the top of his class from medical school in 2006.
After medical school, he was selected as one of only three participants in an accelerated residency program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Stanford, where he trained from 2006 to 2012. During his residency, he contributed to a Bioinnovation program, working on medical devices to reduce infection during peritoneal dialysis, blending his medical knowledge with his passion for technology.
In January 2022, he became a technology company's Senior Director of Medical Artificial Intelligence. Before that, he spent three years building and leading this division, growing it from concept to operation with over $4 million in annual recurring revenue. He manages a team of more than 500 professionals focused on providing high-quality training data to support AI applications in radiology, endoscopy, robotic surgery, drug development, and drug safety. Under his guidance, the division was ranked as the top healthcare data service provider by an independent market analysis in 2022. He has also forged partnerships with three of the world’s largest medical device companies to advance AI initiatives.
Before this role, he was Chief Innovation Officer at a medical technology company, where he developed AI products for dermatology, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology and contributed clinical expertise to sales and strategic planning. His first full-time surgical role was at a veterans’ hospital in California, followed by private practice consulting in plastic surgery.
Throughout his career, he has published articles and book chapters on plastic surgery topics like scar prevention and surgical education. He has also spoken at national and international artificial intelligence and healthcare technology conferences. Early on, he received recognition as a Supercomputer Challenge winner from the National Science Foundation and has earned several awards for leadership and research.
Sina Bari, MD, continues integrating his clinical experience and technical expertise to lead artificial intelligence (AI) innovations that improve patient care and healthcare outcomes.
