Tom Walter is a Division I baseball coach and social impact leader with over 900 career wins across George Washington, New Orleans, and Wake Forest. His approach to coaching combines athletic excellence with academic responsibility and service. Every player he has coached has completed their degree and taken part in community outreach. At Wake Forest, his leadership has guided the program to national prominence, including a No. 1 ranking and several NCAA tournament appearances.

Tom was born in New York and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. His values were shaped during his college years in Washington, DC, where he attended Georgetown University. While there, he served as captain of the baseball team in his junior and senior years, earned Big East All-Academic Team honors in 1990 and 1991, was named team MVP as a senior, and received freshman of the year recognition when he began his collegiate playing career.

After earning a degree in finance, Tom entered a master’s program at George Washington University. While pursuing his MBA, he tutored athletes in calculus, managed equipment for all sports, and worked as an assistant coach. During that season, the team won the Atlantic 10 championship and secured an NCAA tournament appearance in 1992.

In 1996, Tom became head coach at George Washington University. Over eight seasons, he led the team to a 273–181 record, making him the program’s all-time winningest coach. In 2002, he was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year as the team reached the NCAA tournament. Under his leadership, 26 players signed professional contracts, including one who reached Major League Baseball. In 2019, he was inducted into the GW Athletics Hall of Fame and is also a member of the AAABA and Cambria County Halls of Fame.

Thomas Walter continues to lead at Wake Forest and remains committed to education and service through his nonprofit, Get In the Game, launched in 2020. With nearly 1,000 career wins, he continues to inspire growth both on and off the field.
