Always makes one feel appreciated if you know someone took the time to stop by and to write a comment. :)

I believe that we should encourage comments so that we can know our reader's views. Again engagement is really a big factor of a blog and if there's no engagement on a blog the blog looks dead.

That is exactly my idea Andrew. Comments are one of the hardest "assets" to get as a blogger, because they take far more dedication than a simple share.
Hey Lynn, that's a good point right there - you own your blog and you have full control over what happens with its content, while social networks could easily make changes not entirely with the users' welfare in mind.
Ryan - great summary man, that's how I see it as well. And even if you have that monstrous following, I see comments as valuable resource for the reders themselves, resulting in them spending more time on the blog.

Unless you run an authority blog with monstrous following it's suicide to close comments Daniel. You need reader's voices to be heard, to do this blogging thing right. All great reasons!

Hi Daniel,
I like this post because you give some solid and very easy to understand reasons for engaging on the blog, a property you actually own, as opposed to those channels you do NOT own.
As a Social Business Professional (Agency), I can see both sides and your rationale makes perfect sense.

I agree, Daniel, comments are valuable. And they are often hard to come by. To me, one of the most powerful elements of content marketing is engagement and comments facilitate this.

Sabra, since I joined G+, I've been spending less and less time on Facebook as well. Add to the combination Pinterest and you have something really powerful right there. Best of luck with your blog! :)

The headline and sub headline are huge Daniel. I need to get back on that one, gussying up my G Plus shares effectively.
Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for this post, Daniel. I really enjoy Google Plus, and am really happy I decided to get in there when I did. I don't really "do" Facebook except as a personal social network with family, etc. I use and love Twitter, and I dabble in Pinterest. I find that the combination of G plus, Twitter and Triberr has been a huge benefit to me as far as building relationships and getting exposure for my blog, which is still kind of a baby, I guess. : )
