Wendy Horton, MBA, PharmD, FACHE, is the Senior Vice President and President of Adult Services at UCSF Health, one of the nation’s top 10 hospitals. A nationally recognized healthcare leader, she has built her career on advancing operational excellence, driving strategic growth, and delivering patient-centered care, all while maintaining a strong commitment to the communities she serves.
She is dedicated to improving healthcare quality and innovation through better care delivery and the thoughtful use of technology that keeps patients and care teams at the heart of the healthcare experience. With a foundation in clinical pharmacy and extensive leadership experience at leading academic medical centers, she combines clinical expertise with organizational leadership to achieve consistent success in safety, quality, and performance.
Before joining UCSF Health, she served as CEO of UVA Health University Medical Center and System COO of UVA Health, a $4.5 billion health system with over 17,000 employees and 1,200 faculty members in Charlottesville, Virginia. During her five-year tenure, she led statewide expansion efforts through strategic partnerships and acquisitions that strengthened clinical, operational, and financial integration. Under her leadership, the system doubled in size, expanded patient access, and launched programs such as the earn-while-you-learn workforce initiative. She also advanced population health and community care programs while promoting transparency and engagement through listening sessions, town halls, and clinical rounds. Her leadership reduced reliance on travel nurses by over 75% and established the Center for Advanced Practice for more than 700 APPs.
Previously, she was Chief Administrative Officer at The Ohio State University College of Medicine within a $4 billion academic health system. She improved faculty engagement, shortened physician recruitment time by 81%, implemented a $340 million physician compensation plan, and grew research funding by 28.4% to $269.4 million. Earlier, she served as Vice President of Operations at the University of Wisconsin, where she oversaw professional, business, and support services while completing a new hospital project.
